Pets of Envato Part 3: Cats

Posted: 17 Nov 2011 03:14 AM PST

Are you enjoying meeting the pets of Envato? Having met all of the dogs (who call their owners “master”) we now meet the cats (who call them “slave”). I know some of you have been waiting for this post.

Unfortunately, it’s a much shorter post. Cat lovers are as outnumbered in Envato as Windows users are. That is to say, they’re around, but not close to being a majority.

But it’s an interesting post. In it you’ll discover cats that resemble their masters, a cat that ran away from home, cats that live a life of luxury, and one that uses toilet paper. Well, “misuses” might be the more appropriate word.

So here are the stories and photos of the cats of Envato. And again, the pets are described in the words of their owners.

Meco (4 years old) is my office companion and living alarm clock. During the day she lounges about in the office and provides some occasional entertainment when I need a break, but is also a very reliable way to wake up.

She demands attention at 6-7am and lets me know by laying on my chest and rubbing her face against mine while I’m sleeping. Nothing wakes me up faster than the thought of cat hair near my mouth!

Wiggles and Giggles. My wife named them…HONEST! I wanted to call them Mr. Fluffs and Sir Snugglebum. They are brothers, although they don't look anything alike. They're three years old.

The cats take on our personalities quite well. My wife's cat loves to go outside and explore. Mine likes to stay inside and sleep all day.

Skellie, Tuts+

Jacob is a silver tabby aged 1 year 3 months. He was rescued from a barn in the country when he was around 3 months old. His mother had made a home in the barn and had a litter of kittens.

When I first took him home, it seemed like he had cat flu… but after some tests at the vet it was revealed that he had chlamydia! No, it’s not what you think – kittens can catch it from their mother in the womb. His mother was clearly from the wrong side of the tracks.

The good news is that he is now happy, healthy, slightly obese and STD free! Note: he is not named after Jacob from Twilight nor after Envato designer Jacob Zinman-Jeanes.

So pets! My wife and I have an adorable cat named Baggins. She’s roughly 11 years old.

She recently had an ordeal where she was lost of 5 days…

until we found her trapped under a high voltage sub-station.

She’s a very beautiful cat who chases lizards and shares her food with starlings.

I have two cats: Biscuit and Sandy. As they are indoor cats they don’t really get up to much mischief.

Sandy loves to learn web design, she sits next me on my desk and chases the cursor around the monitor. Biscuit loves to play fetch with plastic lids, I swear she was a dog in a former life.

They both try to get in the way of me doing anything that doesn’t involve me giving them attention. They also like to give me massages (padding me with their paws, sign of affection apparently).

So, how do you like the cats of Envato? Next week we’ll get just a little bit weirder. As well as looking at the menageries of the “real” pet-lovers, we’ll also include a few more unusual pets.

And if you haven’t had the chance to send me photos and stories of your pets yet, there’s still time. If necessary I’ll add one more part to the series.
