Help to Promote the Indie Game Dev Bundle and Earn!

Posted: 01 Dec 2011 04:53 PM PST

As you may be aware, we are launching the Indie Game Dev Bundle on Monday the 5th of December at midday AEDT time. We’re super excited for our latest Bundle and as always, we want you to be able to earn some extra cash by referring your friends or website visitors to the sale.

The referral program allows you to earn 30% of the first deposit or purchase of any new member to the site (a new member is classified as someone without an account who has never visited any of the Marketplaces before which is tracked via cookies). It’s simple to use, all you need to do is link to any page on the Marketplaces (such as the landing page of the Indie Game Dev Bundle) and append this to the end of the URL:

Where ‘username’ is replaced by your username. So my referral link would look like this:

This is a great opportunity to earn some money. For your convenience, we’ve made some referral banners which you can use to promote the Bundle on your blog or site. Just remember to take them down by Monday the 12th of December at 12pm AEDT, as the Bundle will no longer be available.

You can also use your referral link to promote the Bundle on social media. If you’re involved with game dev, 3D, audio, Flash or Unity niches then we’d love your help promoting the Bundle.

Get the referral banners here.

Blast from the Past: Envato Founders Interview from 2009

Posted: 01 Dec 2011 04:46 PM PST

“Way back” in August 2009, around the time Envato turned 3, Collis and Cyan were interviewed about the company – where it came from and where it was heading. In some ways that seems a long time ago – Envato is another two and half years older now. It’s great to look back and see how far we’ve come.

One of the best things about working here at Envato is that we have an awesome team of people building, managing, writing, reviewing and working on our sites. Yep, things have come a long way since the early days when there was just a few of us trying to do everything!

Recently our awesome Tuts+ interviewer Emil asked if I minded being video interviewed with some questions put forward by the Psdtuts+ readers. Since no-one really wants to see my enormous head on screen for too long a period of time, I asked my lovely wife and partner in crime Cyan if she'd be in on the interview and we thought we'd put up the video to help celebrate 3 years of Envato.

The interview will take less than four minutes of your time. So sit back and enjoy!

Back Up Your Website – Here’s How

Posted: 30 Nov 2011 11:54 PM PST

The good ole' days by Blake Patterson

If you’re serious about your work, I’m sure you have a well-thought-out backup system that you run as if your income depends on it. An external hard drive, offsite backup, online backup, whatever. For a freelancer, it’s the ultimate insurance plan.

But have you ever thought about backup up your website? It cost you a lot of time or money – maybe both. And it’s also something that your business depends on.

And just in time for that spare time you might have over Christmas, Webdesigntuts+ have created the ultimate guide to backing up your website. The article covers manual backups, cPanel backups, backing up to the cloud, rsync backup, and automated solutions. There’s bound to be a solution that suits you.

What would happen if you woke up tomorrow and your web host had accidentally deleted your website? It happened to me. And, you guessed it: I didn't have a backup. That won't ever happen to me again and I'm here to help you get prepared too.

Still not convinced? Author Andrew Gladwin gives five good reasons why website backups are important:

  1. It’s not your web host’s responsibility to make back ups available to you.
  2. Storing the original development site isnt’ enough.
  3. You need to be ready to react quickly.
  4. Peace of mind.
  5. It’s your protection against viruses.

So head over to Webdesigntuts+ today, choose a backup strategy or two, and get to work!

Your Say: Is December a Busy or Quiet Work Month?

Gary asleep at the wheel by Star5112

We want to hear from you. Each week we give you a chance to share your thoughts, opinions and ideas. Have your say!

Is Gary asleep at his desk because of too much work, or too little? In December, it could be either!

In Australia we’re already half way through the first day of December. The year is winding down, and for many of us, so is our workload. But that’s not the case for everyone. For some people, December is the busiest month of the year.

What is your workload like this month? Easing down or ramping up?
