Featured Desktop: Grant Mitchell, Take 2!

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 04:33 PM PST

We featured Grant Mitchell’s desktop back in August. Since then he’s completely revamped it. This is what it looked like on New Year’s Eve. Click the image for a high-res version on DeviantArt.

His current desktop looks a little more subtle this time. Very nice! He is still using Rainmeter and a few skins from DeviantArt, but this time the widgets are not taking center screen like the last version. I wonder if the icons on the left zoom when you hover over them.

Grant likes to keep the weather and his to do list in plain sight. I wish my to do list was that short! The time and date at the top makes it look like an oversized iPhone. He also keeps his most-used apps (including a few websites) close at hand. The wallpaper is from Battlefield 3.

What do you think of Grant’s latest desktop? Let us know in the comments.

Would you like your desktop featured on Envato Notes? Upload your screenshot somewhere on the Web and let us know about it on our Write a Post page. Or upload it to Flickr and tag it with #envatonotesdesktops. Either way, add an interesting description. Each week we'll choose and publish a new screenshot.

What’s Coming to Notes in 2012?

2012 by Takako Tominaga

Envato Notes is Envato’s community blog. It’s a fun place to hang out, and the best place to keep up with all the Envato news, people and events.

The blog was born half way through 2010. That means we’ve just finished our first full year, and it was a blast. So, where are we heading? What’s in store for 2012? Read on to find out!

1. We’ll More Effectively Equip Marketplace Authors

One major thrust of Envato Notes is to equip marketplace authors to be more effective. And we’re planning on doing that more effectively in 2012.

We’ll dedicate more articles written by more authors to achieving that goal – so you can achieve your goal. Our major focus in 2011 was on marketing, and that will remain an important topic as long as you actually want to sell your items. Are there any other topics you’d like to see helpful and detailed articles on?

Besides that, we’ll continue to bring you submission tips from the reviewers, so you’ll have greater success in having your items approved. And this year we’ll keep you more up to date with industry news.

2. We’ll Cover More of the Envato World

The Envato community is spread out throughout the world. We don’t see one another’s faces every day, and it’s easy to lose touch. This blog is a great place to bring us closer together, and give you the sense of being connected.

This year we’ll finish every week with “The Best of Envato”. This will be a weekly roundup of the best and most interesting posts from all of our sites. We’ll also bring you the best photo from our Flickr stream once a month.

Are there any other ways we can help you feel more connected?

3. We’ll Bring You Some New Interview Series

In 2011 I really enjoyed getting to know the team and community better. The Meet the Staff and Author Interview series were hugely successful. We plan to keep them going, and to improve them.

But this year we plan to add two more interview series: we’ll interview some of the biggest buyers of marketplace items, and we’ll interview some of the biggest advertisers on our sites. What would you like us to ask them?

And finally, we’ll bring to a close our series of Meet the Directors interviews. It’s great to get to know those who are steering the ship!

4. We’d Love to Post More Community Content

I’m really excited that so far this year we’ve had more community content submitted than ever before. A huge “thank you” to everyone who has sent in material. And please keep it up!

This is a community blog, and we love to hear from you. If you’d like to post some tips for selling items, or let us know about some exciting industry news, or simply share a photo of your workspace or desktop, check out our Write a Post page.

5. We’ll Work at Being More Interactive

And finally, this year we’re planning on making the blog more interactive. I really appreciate the great responses you give to our weekly “Your Say” questions. This year we’ll add some polls to the mix.

We’re also planning to make better use of the marketplace forums, which are the social hub of the Envato world. We’ll publish more material from the forums, discuss our plans and posts with you there, and get you more involved in asking interview questions.

So, that’s where we’re heading in 2012. Let us know what you think in the comments. And join us on the journey!
