Featured Workspace: Travis King

Posted: 30 Jan 2012 04:38 PM PST

When you see KingDog waxing lyrical on the forums – or getting a little hot under the collar – where do you picture him to be in real life? Well, wonder no more. He’s wandering through fields of wheat like Russell Crowe in Gladiator. I bet he’s even playing the soundtrack to add to the atmosphere.

I’m not sure whether this is the field Travis works in every day. After all, Canada is a big place, and he lives way out in the sticks. I have it on good authority that sometimes he even works inside. And he occasionally spends time in Japan.

What we can tell from this photo, is besides having great sense in fashion (I love that swagman’s hat), and eating wheat while he works, Travis is not a Mac man. He’s using an Asus notebook or netbook that has a camouflaged look that belongs in an outdoors setting.

And I notice Travis enjoys sticking post-its with cryptic messages to the back of his monitor. Can anyone decipher it? (Click the image for a larger version in Flickr.)

Submission Tip: Check Out Patrik’s Useful Collection of Stock Photos

Posted: 30 Jan 2012 01:52 AM PST

Collis recently posted a useful article about copyright and how it affects authors, with a particular focus on stock photos. If you missed it, you can read it here: Use of Assets in Previews on Envato Marketplaces. It is important to use properly licensed images in your previews.

The article may have you wondering where to find appropriate images. While you can find great stock photos on any number of sites around the Internet, GraphicRiver Reviewer Patrik Larsson has put together a useful collection of images from PhotoDune.

The collection contains over 400 images – and it’s growing every day. Patrik put in a lot of effort to collect as a wide variety as possible, aiming to make the collection useful for everyone who’s in need of images for their themes, flyers, sliders, and other items.

So check out Patrik’s growing collection today. You can either purchase the images, or as Jordan pointed out in a comment to Collis’ article, “As part of our terms and conditions, you can use *watermarked* PhotoDune items in your previews without a license or explicit permission from the author.”

What do you think of Patrik’s collection? Did you find what you were looking for?

Especially interesting is our “How to be a Rockstar series:

"How to be a Rockstar" is a series of easy to follow books for people who wish to develop knowledge and skills in different areas. The development of each book is a collaborative effort of author(s), editor(s), and production, marketing and support services.

Envato staff begin their work early in this process; getting involved in every step of product development, from subject choice and identification of scope to market analysis, generation of ideas and sale of the finished product. Everyone involved makes a contribution to the publication and helps to achieve a successful outcome.

Our books often tie in with Envato sites like FreelanceSwitch (How to Be a Rockstar Freelancer) and Nettuts+ (PSD to HTML: Slice Your Designs Like a Pro!). This helps the books find large, engaged audiences!
