Community Wind Power

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 11:49 AM PST

I just had a nice little chat with the CEO of a wind power company that I think most of our readers would be a fan of. The company, OwnEnergy, is focused on “community wind power projects” in the U.S. Community wind is sort of a nebulous term — as a former sociologist and [...] Related posts:

Microalgae Lamp Absorbs 150-200 Times More CO2 than a Tree!

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 09:32 AM PST

OK, first of all, this CO2-absorbing street lamp looks super cool! Secondly, it absorbs CO2! Thirdly, 150-200 times more than a tree! OK, I’m calming down, and I realize it has a ways to go to get to actual widespread use in the real, physical, CO2-filled world. French biochemist Pierre Calleja looks pretty serious [...] Related posts:

New Solar Tile Launched by Solarcentury

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 09:18 AM PST

Have a tiled roof? If so, you might want a solar tile, eh? Solarcentury has your back (in Europe, at least). Solar century is a UK solar company that was formed ‘way back’ in 1998. It’s been an innovator in the field, especially in its offering of solar tiles (pictures above & below). Obviously, these [...] Related posts:

Big Wind, Renewable Energy Boost as Illinois Gov. Quinn Announces Rock Island Clean Line Project Labor Agreement

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 07:33 AM PST

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn yesterday announced a project labor agreement between Rock Island Clean Line and Flora, Ill.-based Southwire that over a three-year period "will support wind turbine and transmission manufacturing in Illinois and create 1,450 union construction jobs. "The Rock Island Clean Line will enable some $7 billion worth of investments in new wind energy projects to move forward, which today cannot be constructed due to lack of transmission," according to an IGNN press release. Tiny Silver Nano-Trees Pack Huge Solar Power Punch

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 04:40 AM PST

A team of researchers at the University of California, Davis has developed solar energy’s Next Big Thing: nanoscale silver filaments grown in a treelike pattern. Just as a tree’s leaves collect sunlight over a broad surface area relative to their trunks, the filaments of silver nano-trees would be able to collect solar energy over a [...] Related posts:

China Swallows U.S. Solar Trade Surplus & Grows a Big One in 1 Year

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 04:14 AM PST

Andrew has been covering the China-US solar trade dispute extensively for months now, and I did a bit at the beginning. A new report out by the Coalition for American Solar Manufacturing (CASM) seems to lend some pretty strong evidence to the argument that China has been dumping solar technology in the US and very [...] Related posts:

Greenhouse Gas Pollution Rule Sitting in White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs for TOO Long

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 03:39 AM PST

While the NRDC and the Sierra Club push for cleaner air and a safer climate today with their creative new ad campaign, Think Progress notes that an important greenhouse gas pollution rule has been sitting in the White House’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), which has been run (quite poorly, if you care [...] Related posts:

If Polluter Lobbyists Were Asthmatic Children (VIDEO)

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 03:19 AM PST

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and the Sierra Club have launched a new video ad focused on an alternative reality where “every polluter's lobbyist around Congress was suddenly replaced by severely asthmatic children.” The result? Well, we imagine that if that were reality, “Congress wouldn’t always be trying to gut clean air standards.” [...] Related posts:
