Author Interview: Kenaudio

Posted: 16 Apr 2012 11:16 PM PDT

Working as a professional studio drummer, producing a radio show, learning by trial and error, and kite surfing in his spare time. This week we meet Kenaudio from AudioJungle.

If you're an Envato marketplace author and would like to be interviewed for the blog, head over to this form. We'd love to hear from you.

Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from, what do you do for a living?

I am 34 years old coming from Hamburg, Germany. I work as a professional studio drummer, drum teacher and music producer. In the past years I produced songs for a major worldwide publisher. Twice a month I produce a radio show for a well known broadcaster in Hamburg.

Which marketplaces do you belong to? What types of files do you sell?

I belong to AudioJungle and I sell stock music, sound effects, loops and the like.

How did you get started? Have you had any formal training?

I learned most things on my own, working in studios just dealing with the outboard equipment and a lot of trial and error. :-)

Describe your home workspace.

Basically I work on a Mac system. At the moment there is a MacBook connected to a Metric Halo audio interface and some outboard equipment like gates, preamps and the like.

Drums – ready to be recorded, just stand a few meters beside me. :-)

Describe your creative process. What steps do you normally follow to create your files?

Listening and then doing. It comes from inside with a small idea at the beginning. But the process is again trial and error and a lot of listening.

What is your advice to other authors regarding how to create a successful portfolio?

Developing special categories of music… a main idea, and work on it like you would do on an album.

What do you do to market your files?

I have a several homepages like kenaudio.com where I also blog about my music. Also I will start using YouTube, Vimeo and other video sites to promote my profile.

What are your three favorite files, and why do you like them?

1. Reggae Sunny Day

I like the flow and the mood of this track. It also was my first track sold ever!!!

2. Slow Funky Mama

This is just drums and bass. REAL drums and bass and this makes it special to me. It sounds totally different than all the computer based music.

3. Smooth Ambient Chill

This track was recently finished and it developed more and more just by itself. There are brushes on the snare floating with the groove of the song. I like that a lot.

Apart from yourself, who is your favorite marketplace author, and why do you like them?

Soundroll Music for example… It impresses me much how professional he and his team seems to be and I like his music a lot. But there are others I really like!

What do you do in your spare time?

Running, doing sports, kite-surfing!

These questions were answered in the Podcast:
guitarjock asked: Hello Community Podcast Team!
I was wondering if you could give us any hints on what it takes to get hired by Envato. I know that it is a good idea to join and pay attention to freelance switch….but what other pointers can you give? Like, how did you guys start out working for the company? Are there any plans for employee expansion in the near future? Just wondering.

butlerm asked: Heres a question that has been bugging me for the past year. Why does videohive not have the roll over video previews like basically every other stock video and stock after effects site? And is there any news of this getting implemented anytime soon?

Thanks for listening and don’t forget to tune in next time!:)
