Automatic App-cessory Is Nike+ For Your Car!

Reposted, with minor changes, from Gas2: In today’s “Dammit, that was my idea!” story, I’d like to bring you Automatic’s new app+hardware combo product — a sort of Nike+ “appcessory” package for your car that brings the “fun” and excitement of “hyper-miling” to your iPhone or iPod. A few years since its introduction, you should all know about the Nike/Apple joint-marketing effort known as Nike+ Running. If you don’t, though, I’ll try to summarize: there … Read More

Plug-In Hybrid Sports Car From Old-School Belgian Company Imperia

Another pretty plug-in hybrid electric sports car is coming to market. This one from the old-school car company Imperia out of Belgium. Chris DeMorro of Gas2 writes: “Imperia estimates that the Wiesmann GT will be able to go about 37 miles on electricity only, and fuel consumption with a fully charged battery will be over 123 mpg. Sounds incredible, and as such it is prohibitively expensive, costing more than $160,000. A more ‘basic’ version costing just … Read More

This summer, the cast of Jersey Shore might find it easier to get a tan by leaning over the nearest solar photovoltaic panel instead of making an appointment at their favorite tanning salon. Enorm V3 Bullet — Motorcycle-Looking Electric Bike (Video)

I’m not a motorcycle fan, I have to say (I’m more of a bike or scooter guy), but this motorcycle-styled electric-assisted bike called the Enorm V3 Bullet is pretty wicked: Chris DeMorro of sister site Gas2 thinks the Enorm V3 Bullet looks like “the spawn of an iPhone and a crotch rocket.” What do you think? Here are some more details on the bike from Chris: The Enorm V3 Bullet certainly isn't your standard, back-to-basics eBike, as … Read More

John Kerry: The Science Is Screaming At Us

Secretary of State John Kerry gave a barn-burner of a speech about climate change at National Geographic’s Ross Sea Conservation reception earlier this week, in which he renewed his calls to “respond to what the science and the facts are telling us.” Oddly enough, though, he hung the meat of his speech on the same hook that former Presidential candidate Mitt Romney deployed last year. It’s an old argument that dates back to the 17th … Read More

Tesla Model S Parts Infographic

Why do I have the feeling such an infographic wouldn’t be cool if it were about any other car company? But it’s Tesla, so it’s awesome. Also, as Chris DeMorro of Gas2 notes, if you look carefully, it really is another sign that Tesla rocks it (skip below the infographic for more on that). Some commentary from Chris: This has allowed Tesla to license and manufacture parts for other companies, including Daimlerand Toyota for projects like the … Read More

GE CEO: "Cleantech Is Not An Ideology"

Reposted from RenewEconomy (image added): Jeff Immelt, chairman and CEO of global industrial giant and leading energy supply company GE, had just a few words to say during a lightning visit to Australia this week to meet clients, sign deals and announce winners of the company's first "ecomagination" low carbon challenge in Australasia, but his words were worth noting, particularly in the feverish and polarised political debate that pervades both here and in the US. "We've … Read More
